Celebrate Your Gratitude for Love

“Venus favors the bold.” - Ovid made this statement about the boldness of love thousands of years ago. I would say that it has never been more true or necessary. Let this year’s celebration of love be a bold statement of love, beginning with yourself. Start by feeling worthy of your own love. Give yourself a break and trust your instincts. Watch your favorite romantic comedy and laugh out loud or cry when the mood strikes you. Allowing our emotions to exist in the world is a profoundly loving act that opens life up to new possibilities.

If you’re lucky enough to be loving someone else this Valentine’s Day- celebrate your gratitude not just with store bought gifts, although a small measure of those are always nice. Take time to write a list of all of the remarkable qualities that your relationship brings to your life. (more…)

Sustainable Love

“Sustainability” is the catch phrase of this generation, it means learning how to use current resources in a way that does not harm the future. We hear about this in terms of building homes, cultivating food, and rethinking our natural and energy resources. Basically, we are finally being compelled to live in such a way that we can meet the needs of the present generation without compromising future generations.

This wisdom is rarely applied to love, which, I believe is the source of energy from which all else springs. Why, then, is it so difficult for so many of us to maintain our loving relationships? What skills and insights can we bring to our love relationships to allow them to flourish and sustain our lives into perpetuity?

We need to begin to appreciate that being in relationship, having a family and history with someone is a precious resource. (more…)
